Finland supports implementation of Kampala Convention on Internally Displaced Persons

In June and July, ECOWAS and UNHCR organized a set of three conferences in Cote d'Ivoire, Liberia and Nigeria, to discuss a study funded by the Government of Finland on Kampala Convention and the IDP situation in West Africa. The study focuses on the responsibility to respond to internal displacement in the three ECOWAS countries through case studies. The purpose of the conferences was to disseminate the outcomes of the case studies to wider local stakeholder audiences. A conference in Abidjan took place on 29 June, in Monrovia on 2 July and in Abuja on 7 July. In Abuja, the Embassy of Finland was represented by Ambassador Pirjo Suomela-Chowdhury, and in Abidjan by Counsellor Torun Eklund.

The Ambassador's speech at the dissemination conference can be accessed here.
