Ambassador Pirjo Suomela-Chowdhury presented her credentials to the President of Ghana H.E John Mahama in Accra on 14 October 2015.
During the discussion between Ambassador Suomela-Chowdhury and President Mahama, reference was made to the excellent bilateral relations between Finland and Ghana, including high-level visits, converging priorities of the two countries in areas such as peace and security, education, health and equality, as well as to both countries being very active members of the United Nations. The important role of both Finland and Ghana in fighting the ebola epidemic was also mentioned.
Trade and economic relations between Finland and Ghana received particular attention, and both parties emphasized the importance of further intensifying this area of their cooperation. Ambassador Suomela-Chowdhury stressed her commitment to promoting business relations and said that this area would be at the centre of her attention during her tenure as the Ambassador of Finland to Ghana. President Mahama highlighted the important vessel traffic management information system, as an example of good cooperation.
Both parties expressed their strong commitment to further intensifying relations between Finland and Ghana.
